Homework Assignment: Gradients

Description

Another assignment done for :iconthe-classroom: this time my teacher wanted me to work on using gradients for shading.

I've experimented with it and done it a bit before, but usually it was with another type of shading and never just on it's own. It's a lot trickier getting it to look right when it's all your using, but I really like the effect and I really want to get better at it. Especially using the technique she showed me. I think the hardest part here was probably the bubbles. I wanted them to look more rainbowish, but I couldn't get it to look right and didn't know how to do it with the gradient, so I used more of the background color to help with that.

I don't think I need a mature filter for this since nothing is showing, but let me know if you think I do.

Hope you guys like it and as always critique is loved, craved, and begged for. Seriously, rip it apart. Even though this was just a coloring assignment, please feel free to comment on anything. Though I already know the feet look horrible. ^^;

As someone already commented this is very simplistic and I like that. As for the anatomy there a few things off. The hand holding the cigarette is out of proportion - it's way bigger than the hand in the foreground and it should the same size if not slightly smaller. Same for the legs - the one in the foreground is shorter than the one in the background. It should be longer (both of them should be). Her arm is touching the ground then her bent leg/foot should be touching the ground too.

The smoke stood out to me the most - cigarette smoke is white, not black or gray. Even on cigars or cigarillos that have darker paper they burn white.

To finish up I like the technique you used to make the tub/barrel look like wood and metal.
